Suky Speaks

Sat July 6 10:00am

Hear about life at Latta Place from the perspective of Suki, an enslaved black worker who lived at the site. Suki, like many other enslaved people, brought with her to the site her own knowledge, skills and beliefs. Slave owners such as James Latta relied on Suki and the other 33 men, women and children enslaved at the site to keep the homestead operational, even while they received daily threats of violence and ongoing harassment. Despite the significant constraints she faced, Suki found ways to resist and form connections with her fellow workers. Her story, while painful, also demonstrates the resilience of many enslaved African Americans. Free. Registration not required.
